We can build your business logo or add atmosphere to your business using art glass for color and privacy. Looking for something specific?–Give us a call.

About Legacy Stained Glass

Stained glass art is ‘practical’ art that can be used and enjoyed everyday in your home. It can add a statement of individuality to a front door, block a view of the neighbor’s side yard and keep bathrooms private while being beautiful at the same time.

Although I had dabbled in stained glass since high school, my real exposure to glass came from my experience with homebuilding and remodeling, and that is still my personal interest. Legacy Glass Art is my opportunity to be surrounded by art and color and other people who are as excited about the possibilities of glass as I am.

Boise has quite a community of glass artists. I’m hoping the store will be a central place for both established artists and people just drawn to glass for the first time to share ideas.

It’s exciting to see students’ eyes light up when they figure out that they can build an impressive project that they love and their friends are amazed by. Stained glass pieces are truly a “Legacy” to be passed on from generation to generation.

Custom Work

Stained Glass built to YOUR specs

We design and build pieces for clients who would like a special stained glass window created for their homes and businesses. Cost for commissioned work depends on the detail of the design, types of glass used and the finished size. You will know the cost of your panel before you make a commitment.

You will be surprised how affordable it is to add so much character to your home! There are so many ways to add Glass Art to your life.

  • Bathroom windows: (the neighbors can’t see in and you have a beautiful view everyday!)
  • The Front Door: The right design in a door sidelight can really make a statement. Add great color and art to your entry – inside & out.
  • Kitchen cabinets take on a whole new look by adding glass. Add a sheet of glass in a door panel or have a leaded design built to match your backsplash, wallpaper, dishes…..whatever you like best!

Clients are encouraged to have as much input as they would like in their design and in glass selections to be used for their project. At the first meeting we will review where the piece will be displayed to get a feel for the architecture, dimensions, the setting, view and decor so that the finished piece is truly integrates into your space. We will discuss any installation requirements and factors that may affect the piece. After a review of your theme and vision, a full size drawing (called a cartoon) will be prepared for your approval. Design adjustments will be made and glass will be selected next and the building process can begin. In a short time, you will have a work of art unique to you. We never reproduce your design for anyone else.

TWO classes. Meant as a ‘try it to see if you like it’ class, this is a beginning class where we use the foil method of construction.

In this class you will learn how to cut, grind, foil, and solder glass components. In two classes you will complete a window “suncatcher”.

We usually have a couple patterns to choose from and away you go! All the necessary materials are included along with the use of classroom tools.

SIX classes. This class is also for beginners. You will learn all the steps from start to finish to make a quality panel approximately 14″ x 18″ . You will choose from class patterns so you can focus on the skills, not designing this first panel. Cost is for instruction: materials & glass are extra. You will need to purchase your own glass and ‘consumable’ materials, but use of grinder & soldering irons and tools are provided. That way, you have a chance to try different types of tools. We want to be sure you can decide what suits you best before you buy your own (and your own tools always feel best – like your own pair of shoes) ! We will take you from pattern choice through glass cutting, foiling methods, soldering, metal framing & finishing your piece. You will have the skills to take on your next project successfully!

FOIL TOOLS : from $ 150 (depending on selections):

  • soldering iron, stand, rheostat & sponge
  • glass cutter
  • safety glasses
  • grozing stone
  • running pliers or glassnapper
  • foil pattern shears
  • fid, pencil & sharpie
  • breaker / grozer, medium

  • Glass for your project Copper foil
  • Flux and solder
  • Exterior came and hangers

lead2FIVE classes. We ask that you have experience with a good number of foil projects and have good cutting skills to be ready to add lead came to your list of skills We will cover all aspects from design, construction techniques & planning to reinforcement and final puttying. You will be able to choose an existing pattern or design your own within practical size limitations. You will need to plan for homework depending on the complexity of your pattern. You will need your own tools from foil construction plus a few that are specifically for lead came. Cost is for instruction. Tools, materials & glass are extra.

You will need the items in the foil kit, as above, plus:

  • lead dykes
  • came fid
  • lead pattern shears
  • glazer’s hammer & nails

This is a 1 1/2 to 2 HOUR workshop for those that wish to improve the looks of their soldering. We will observe your technique and give you ideas to add speed and smoothness. Bring your supplies & iron and a current project to work on.

This 1 1/2 to 2 HOUR workshop is specifically for those who only want to do mosaics or other crafts. You will learn to cut glass strips and gentle curves with or without a pattern in a one-on-one session. No tools are needed, but you may want to purchase your own glass cutter.
